Talk:Ralph Waldo Emerson

From New World Encyclopedia
Unification Aspects:

Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of the defining intellectuals of American culture and society. A Unitarian minister who rejected the deity of Jesus Christ and rejected the importance of revealed religion in favor of the direct experience of God in nature, Emerson is best known for his lectures and essays on self-reliance and individualism. He is responsible, as much as anyone, for popularizing these distinctly American virtues in an age when America was defining its character. Emerson was the intellectual center of a movement, known as Transcendentalism that included other pivotal artists and thinkers, including Walt Whitman, Henry David Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne among others.
