Elvis Aron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), often known simply as Elvis but also called "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or simply "The King," was the most successful early rock and roll performer. As a result of his fame as a singer, he also had a lucrative acting career and continued to draw large crowds as a stage performer until his untimely death at 42 years old. Presley became an icon of modern American pop culture. The raw energy of his performances and early recordings helped unleash the youthful passions that influenced a generation of performance artists, including Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Bruce Springsteen. His popularity as a singer has survived his death.
