From New World Encyclopedia
Unification Aspects:
  • Pietro d’Abano was one of the founders of modern medical science. He studied the works of Galen and other Arabic medical writers and helped to introduce the Arabic medical tradition of carefully analyzing and categorizing symptoms and treatments, rather than relying on principles of natural philosophy to diagnose diseases as the Greeks had done.
  • Abano was also instrumental in introducing the works of Averroes and Aristotle to Italian scholars, an influence which heralded the beginnings of modern Europe.
