This is a comprehensive account of Karl Haushofer and his idea of Geopolitics. However, with regard to the analysis of autarky as given in the section, I beg to differ. It has more to do with economic self sufficiency than mere tariff protectionism. In a long protracted war when the flow of resources could be interrupted, the home productions would be sufficient to tide over the crisis. Thus the Nazi regime in Germany stressed on the manufacture of synthetic rubber(buna) and synthetic petrol to fulfill its geopolitical aspirations.

Yes, generally autarky is about self-sufficiency. However, this article is about Haushofer’s version which was based on a somewhat different premise, namely a future of over-population and consequent limits to productivity. Thus, he advocated protectionism. A revision will be made to the article to clarify this point.
