Eli Whitney did not invent the cotton gin. One of his slaves invented the cotton gin and when his master Eli Whitney found out about it he took the invention from him and said he couldn’t keep it because he was a slave. Eli Whitney then lied and told everyone that he was the inventor.

Thank you for your comment. Indeed there are stories about others who actually invented the cotton gin, although Eli Whitney was the one who obtained the patent. The text will be revised to include the controversy over who was the actual inventor.
