A popoular (and incorrect) nickname for the Coati in Mexico is “Tejon”, which, in Spain, is actually a Eurpoean Badger.

This is a helpful comment by wild john. I think we should keep comments like this on the comment page for now, and only add nicknames to the article that are very widely known or used authoritatively (such as the common names used in journal publications or books). Since there are so many different common names in different languages and different countries and even different sections of countries, the articles could become overrun with common names, which would not be as helpful for the reader as the scientific names and the few very widely known common names. And some of these common names have different meanings in different countries, which could get confusing.
