One may add – that the only true Monitor still afloat (not a modern copy) is still on view in the Maritin Center Gothenburgs harbor Sweden.

A great experience to climb into it.

If You want some photos – keep in touch.

It is wrong to call this the Battle of the Monitor and The Merimac, The ship was raised and renamed the CSS VIRGINIA
AND should be called what was it’s correct name, VIRGINIA.

Thank you, Jerry, for your feedback. Indeed the ship was called the Virginia at the time of the battle, which is called alternately the “Battle of Hampton Roads” or the “Battle of Monitor and Merrimack.” Obviously the reason the battle is named after the Merrimac is that the Virginia was rebuilt from the Merrimac prior to the battle. Certainly there are many events that are named somewhat incorrectly, this battle being only one.
