Purpose

The New World Encyclopedia is designed to organize human knowledge so that the reader will learn information, not just for its own sake, but for its value to the world as a whole. The underlying goal of the encyclopedia is to promote knowledge that leads to happiness, well-being, and world peace.

This is a prototype of the future website that will contain thousands of carefully selected articles. This site contains a sample of articles already completed, information on the project vision, background and structure, and importantly how writers can apply to become a part of it.

This encyclopedia is intended for use by teachers and students that are drawn to the ease of use of Wikipedia, but are concerned about the quality and consistency of articles. It's goal is to provide editorial supervision by scholars like traditional print encyclopedias combined with the ease of use, hyperlinks, and greater detail found on-line encyclopedias.

This encyclopedia transcends the metaphysical assumptions of both the Enlightenment and Modern Encyclopedias. The originator of this project is Sun Myung Moon. The worldview that informs this encyclopedia proceeds on the basis of universal values found in the religious and spiritual traditions and in people of conscience, values drawn from original human purpose, and the design of creation.

A Free Online Encyclopedia

This encyclopedia designed for the general reader and is available online and is free to all people with internet access. It is greatly indebted to Wikipedia pioneers, the GNU-FDL Free Document License, and to a number of editors and writers who have used Wikipedia articles as the basis for their articles and worked to improve them based on their training in the subject area according to the writer guidelines for this project.

In keeping with the terms of the Free Document License, the article version of each document imported from Wikipedia is documented at the bottom of the page and is hyperlinked to the Wikipedia article so that a complete history of its construction has been kept.

Unification Aspects

Each article has an accompanying Unification Aspects page designed to relate the subject of this article to Unification Thought. These aspects are not included in the article itself, which is written for a general audience. Unification Aspects is designed to aid teachers in value-based schools and those who wish to further pursue these topics from a unification perspective.
