This is the template documentation page for {{Tfd-inline/doc}}.
It is not necessarily intended to be viewed directly. If it uses variables, some links may appear broken. Do not replace these variables with hardcoded page names or URLs.

This template is used to nominate inline templates for deletion. Templates which include this template, will be added to Category:Templates for deletion.

Usage

{{ tfd-inline|TemplateName|Nomination }}

  • TemplateName: Name of the template being nominated for deletion. Do not include the Template: prefix.
  • Nomination (optional): If this template is nominated together with other templates in a group nomination, set this parameter to the section title, including the Template: prefix if there is one.

This is a variant of {{tfd}}. It should be used to tag TfD candidates that appear inline or in an infobox. See Category:Inline templates for some examples.

Example

For example, suppose that a template called {{raisins}} outputs the link "dried grapes." Here's how it might appear in an article:

Among her favorite fruits were apples, avocados, bananas, dried grapes, oranges, peaches and pears.

If the standard {{tfd}} tag were to be inserted into the template, the following would result:

Among her favorite fruits were apples, avocados, bananas, dried grapes, oranges, peaches and pears.

Obviously, it's impossible for the reader to identify the deletion candidate.

Using {{tfd-inline|raisins|fruit templates}} instead generates the following result:

Among her favorite fruits were apples, avocados, bananas, ‹The template raisins is being considered for deletion.›  dried grapes, oranges, peaches and pears.

As you can see, the downside is a greater degree of interference with the article's text, so the decision of which tag to use should be made on a case-by-case basis. If the insertion of either template is deemed too detrimental to a large number of articles, it might be advisable to place the notice on the template's talk page instead.
