A good article, one minor mistake though.
On a ship the Engineers and engine crew report to the Chief Engineer, the Deck Officers and deck crew report to the Chief Officer, and everybody onboard (including passengers) reports to the Master.
There may be some differences for military vessels, but they generally follow a similar system.
