Citrus fruits provide two obvious unification values.
Dual purposes. According to Unification Thought, entities fulfill both an individual purpose, such as their own survival and reproduction, and a purpose for the whole, whereby they contribute something of value to the ecosystem, as well as to humans. The citrus fruit is designed for the multiplication of the plants. However, it also provides nourishment to animals, and aesthetic, sensual, and nutritional values for human beings. The aesthetic values come in the form of the beauty of the flowers and the sensual comes in the form of the tastes of the fruit and the fragrance of the flowers and the fruits. Citrus fruits provide such important nutritional and health benefits, being good sources of vitamin C, flavonoids, fiber, and folic acid.
Creativity. According to Unification Thought, God endowed human beings with creativity. This creativity is manifested in the numerous varieties of citrus that human beings have developed. Such human management of nature is part of human responsibility. As stated by Rev. Sun Myung Moon (June 13, 2006, Cheongpyeong, Republic of Korea), "God created all the earth's creatures as our natural environment; they are absolutely needed for human prosperity. Human beings and nature are meant to share a realm of mutual resonance, with humans as the subject partners of love and nature as the object partner thriving under human management and beautified by human creativity."
Unification Aspects is designed to relate the subject of this article to Unification Thought and to aid teachers and researchers who wish to further pursue these topics from a unification perspective.
