Unification Aspects:

Chordates exhibit great diversity, from wormlike urochordates to fish to birds to apes and so forth. Despite this diversity, all share common features that allow them to be classified as chordates. This reflects the interconnectedness of nature, and indeed a common descent, whereby later forms are built on the foundation of earlier forms. The basic procedure of development is one of stages, rather than a creation of unique species from nothing.
