Talk:The Tale of Igor's Campaign
From New World Encyclopedia
Unification Aspects: The Tale of Igor's Campaign is one of the earliest works of imaginative literature in the Russian/Slavic tradition. Most of the literature from this period are either historical chronicles or lives of the saints. The Rus' converted to Christianity in the tenth century. This work, usually dated from around the twelfth century, is a mixture of Christianity and that Slavic paganism that preceded it. Such works of art from the medieval period help us to realize that the Christianizing of culture was an ongoing process. The popularity of the pagan religion and pagan gods was not immediately replaced by Christian ones. Rather, it was a process usually referred to as "baptism," as the pagan gods and religious rituals take on more and more Christian content over time.
