Unification Aspects:

Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria in many ways personified the satanic nature of Communism. Cold, ruthless, and without apparent remorse or call to conscience. Beria carried out Stalin’s orders with relentless efficiency.

In Beria we can see the moral depravity of an ideology that denies the existence of God, and therefore fails to recognize the intrinsic, eternal, moral and spiritual nature of man. Freed from the strictures of conscience, Communists such as Beria, believed that any action is justifiable in order to achieve their goal: the end justifies the means.

Lenin once said, "Promises are like pie-crusts—made to be broken." In other words, if the lie is in the best interests of Communism, then every kind of deceit and trickery is acceptable and ideologically justified.

The 1930s Purge Trials, in which Beria played an important role, demonstrated this. Show trials in which thousands of dedicated Marxists were condemned and executed without any evidence of guilt were conducted in the name of protecting the Soviet state and the greater cause of Communism. These trials led to a crisis of conscience for many, and for many a harrowing disillusion in an ideology they had once embraced as the greatest hope for humankind. The novel “Darkness at Noon” by Arthur Koestler gives a chilling account of this moral dilemma.

It is not known whether Beria went through a “crisis of faith.” Some would argue that his liberalizing policies following Stalin’s death were evidence of some latent moral impulse; others say that it was simply another tactic to expand his power base, and achieve ultimate power.

What is indisputable is that Beria became Stalin’s ruthlessly loyal henchman, rising to a place of power as one of the Soviet Union’s most feared leaders. Moreover, the state of institutionalized terror that Beria helped Stalin to create revealed to the world the gruesome nature of the failed ideology of communism.

In Unificationism, however, the worst of criminals will one day be rehabilitated, even Satan himself. Whatever hell Beria created for himself in the eternal world will one day be opened, and Beria, like all of us, will be reformed by the power of True Love.
