Unification Aspects:

James Braid was one of the early pioneers in research on hypnosis. Trained in the medical field, and a successful surgeon, he understood the laws of the physical world, including the functioning of the human body. He however, was fascinated by hypnotism, something that did not firmly belong to the realm of "physical," and he dedicated his life to discovering more about it.

In Braid's time there was little room for "alternative" explanations of medical phenomena, and he tried to find a logical explanation behind hypnosis. He rejected Franz Mesmer's "invisible fluid" theory and offered his own, more scientific one. He put the main emphasis on "suggestibility" rather than "animal magnetism," in that way opening the door for the scientific explanation of how the mind influences the body. Today, hypnotherapy plays a significant role in treatment of mental disorders, and is as much accepted as any other forms of psychotherapy.

Unification thought teaches that human beings consist of mind and body, which must be harmonized on three levels—spiritual, mental, and physical—centered on God. Only in that way can human beings be harmonized within themselves, with each other, with God, and ultimately experience true health and happiness.
