Talk:Grace Abbott
From New World Encyclopedia
Grace Abbott was born into a family who pioneered the Western US prairies. She and her sister, Edith learned the values of social justice for all people from her parents. Grace developed a great concern for the oppressed, and spent her life challenging the social injustices she observed. She pioneered reform in child labor, women's rights, and immigrants' rights in an attempt to care for all people as one human family. For this she was recognized as one of the great American women of the twentieth century.
As great as her contribution was, it could not change the hearts and minds of self-centered people from exploiting or ignoring the suffering of those weaker and less fortunate than themselves. True and complete solutions to the social evils she sought to correct can only come from such internal, spiritual change which will allow people to live as one human family.
