Unification Aspects:

Digital Audio Tape (DAT or R-DAT) is a signal recording and playback medium developed by Sony in the mid 1980s. In appearance it is similar to a compact audio cassette, using 4 mm magnetic tape enclosed in a protective shell, but is roughly half the size. As the name suggests, the recording is digital rather than analog. DAT has the ability to record at higher, equal or lower sampling rates than a CD at 16 bits quantization. If a digital source is copied, then the DAT will produce an exact clone, unlike other digital media such as Digital Compact Cassette or non-Hi-MD MiniDisc, both of which use lossy data compression.

From a Unification perspective, a number of points can be made:

  • Digital audio tapes are part of digital audio technology, which has been playing an important part in modern civilization, bringing people more benefits in life. This technology contributes to the advancement of human civilization and in the overall goal of building one family of humanity under God.
  • Human talents and abilities to design and construct digital audio tapes are manifestations of the gifts of higher intelligence, creativity, and responsible action that God has endowed people with. These attributes are linked to humanity's spiritual nature and set Homo sapiens apart from all other known species on Earth. In addition, these attributes reflect an inheritance of God's intelligence, ingenuity, and creativity.
  • Human efforts to design, construct, and use digital audio tapes have helped not only in practical terms but also to fulfill an inner drive to have dominion over the natural world. Unification Thought expresses this in terms of fulfilling God's Third Great Blessing to humanity, which is to exert efforts to understand, harmonize with, and gain dominion (stewardship) of true love over the environment.
  • The usefulness of digital audio tapes indicates that they serve the larger purpose, or the "purpose of the whole." From a Unification perspective, they provide an insight for one's own spiritual growth: To live for the sake of others. By practicing this principle, people transcend the level of mere survival and travel the path toward inheriting God's nature. Eventually, people can vibrate with God's spirit and become channels for God's love to flow through them to others and to the rest of creation. In this manner, humanity can fulfill God's "Three Great Blessings" and establish a world of peace and harmony.
