Prephenate (Prephenic acid, an intermediate in the biosynthesis of the aromatic amino acids phenylalanine and tyrosine)is oxidatively decarboxylated to p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate, which is transaminated to tyrosine with glutamate as the nitrogen source.
